1. Key Features
Optimal balance between the shortest and lightest design in its category* and the convenient zoom range was pursued while maximizing the advantages of the Z mount system. With its light and compact body, this lens is ideal for first-time full-frame camera users and those who want to enjoy picture-taking with an FX-format standard zoom lens.
*Among full-frame zoom lenses for mirrorless cameras with interchangeable lenses, available as of July 21, 2020. Statement based on Nikon research.
This lens with a length of only 51-mm/2.1-in. and weight of only approx. 195 g/6.9 oz., employing a button-less retractable lens mechanism, realizes the light and compact design, letting you take it anywhere without hesitation. It supports capture of images during travel and daily snapshots much more comfortably, as it will not tire you even if you hold it for a long time.
Covers a convenient zoom range from wide-angle 24 mm to standard 50 mm. You can shoot a wide variety of scenes and subjects from vast landscapes, snapshots, pets, portraits and tabletop shots to close-ups of flowers and jewelry. The NIKKOR Z 24-50mm f/4-6.3 allows you to change composition comfortably by rotating the zoom ring, utilizing the constant minimum focus distance of 0.35 m throughout the entire zoom range.
The NIKKOR Z 24-50mm f/4-6.3 achieves superb resolution overturning the general perception of the image quality of compact, affordable lenses. Outstanding rendering performance thanks to the large diameter and short flange focal distance of the Z mount is concentrated in a compact body.
Thanks to the large diameter and short flange focal distance of the Z mount system, high optical performance is delivered despite a compact design, ensuring high-resolution images even in the peripheral areas of the frame, at all zoom positions.
By employing two ED glass elements, axial chromatic aberration is well compensated, and color bleeding is effectively reduced.
Natural and beautiful bokeh is also one of the advantages provided with the NIKKOR Z 24-50mm f/4-6.3’s superior image quality. You can easily create eye-catching effects in portraits that impressively emphasize the subject or pictures of flowers in which one particular bloom is effectively focused on.
Usability has been intensively considered not only for still shooting but also for movie recording. Impressive movie performance is realized via the adoption of a variety of features that enable natural and comfortable recording.
Employing an STM (stepping motor) in the AF and diaphragm mechanism ensures outstandingly quiet operation. Operation sound is also reduced with a control ring that allows click-less operation, letting you record in quiet situations without worrying about any annoying sounds being recorded.
Smooth operational feel of both the zoom ring and control ring enables natural movie expression by realizing gradual and natural change of angle of view, focus and exposure. A function selected from various options such as focus, ISO sensitivity, aperture and exposure compensation can be assigned on the control ring, which can help achieve more comfortable movie recording and smooth operation.
Reduces shifting of the angle of view when adjusting focus, resulting in more natural recording even when the focus point changes, e.g. from the subject in the foreground to the background.
Enables smooth and stable aperture control that delivers natural exposure changes when recording.
The NIKKOR Z 24-50mm f/4-6.3 is designed carefully considering dust- and drip-resistant performance with a sealing that prevents dust and water droplets from entering the lens. *Perfect dustproof and waterproof performance is not guaranteed under all conditions.
